Oda Nobunaga was a powerful samurai, landlord and leader in the
late 16th century. Nobunaga is remembered in Japan as one of the
most important figures of the Sengoku period and was recognized as
one of Japan's greatest rulers. He lived a life of continuous military
conquest, eventually conquering a third of Japan and becoming the
first of three unifiers during the Sengoku period. He was betrayed
and killed by Akechi Matsuhide during the Incident at Honnoji.
